Recently we have received numerous telephone calls and
e-mails regarding a work at home accounts receivable
position. This is a FRAUD, a SCAM, or what ever else you
might want call it! Do not reply to these people, and by all
means do not give them your personal information. That is
the purpose of the ad, to get you to hand over your personal
information willingly. They will correspond with an e-mail
address that will be invalid within weeks. They will ask to
you to deposit checks into your personal account and
forward money. No legitimate company would ever handle
accounts receivable funds in this fashion. One poor woman
I spoke to a few weeks ago was left on the hook for over
$5,000.00 of bounced checks. Another gentleman had to
close his accounts, but it was too late he had already
provided them will all his information. With one ad they can
not only get your money, but far worse your identity.
This matter has been reported to the Cyber Crimes
department of the FBI (Complaint No. I0710101736434212,
dated 10/10/2007). As of this date not one of the law
enforcement agencies contacted has done anything. The
standard line has been that they do not have the resources
necessary to follow-up on all the reports of fraud. If you
find one of these ads on a job board, please report it to the
job board so it can be removed. Yahoo and CareerBuilder
have been great about removing the ads. The problem is
for every one I have removed, six more appear the next
day.
Don't fall victim to these people. If you have provided them
with information, please contact your bank and file a report
with your local law enforcement to document the fraud.
